Holiday travelers and visitors to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will enjoy the sights and sounds of the annual Winter Festival of Music performed by over 1,600 music and performing arts students from 30 Broward County public schools. The festival, now in its 25th year, will take place Monday, December 9 through Friday, December 13, 2013. Performances are scheduled each day from 9 a.m. – noon, and from 2 – 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In all, 26 choirs and bands will welcome and entertain travelers and visitors with musical performances during the hectic holiday season. The students will perform in different parts of the airport terminals, including baggage claim areas and near ticket counters. Passengers have often stopped to sing along and dance to the holiday music, and a few lucky ones have even been invited to take the baton as guest conductor.
“We’re very proud of our longstanding partnership with the airport and the service and opportunity this event provides for students and travelers alike,” said Joseph Luechauer, BCPS music and performing arts curriculum supervisor. “We invite travelers and the community to enjoy our talented, award winning students.”
Opening acts on Monday, December 9, from 9 a.m. – noon include:
Terminal 1 – Park Trails Elementary School chorus will sing near the ticket counter; Pinewood Elementary School chorus performs at the baggage claim; and Miramar High School chorus performs in the Rental Car Center lobby.
Terminal 2 – Tequesta Trace Middle School chorus performs in the upper east section; Tequesta Trace Middle School band performs at the baggage claim.
Terminal 3 – Falcon Cove Middle School instrumental ensembles perform at the baggage claim.
