LAUDERHILL — The CSC is pleased to support and provide leadership for the Community-
wide Grade Level Reading Campaign, including literacy and early education support (PreK through 3rd grade) and other resources for children, parents, and teachers.
One such effort is Jumpstart’s Read for the Record – a global moment to raise awareness
around the critical importance of early literacy and increase access to high-quality children’s books. Each year, Read for the Record brings together millions of adults and children as they read the same book on the same day, building an intergenerational community through reading. Locally, the Children’s Services Council of Broward County and Broward County Public Schools are coordinating Broward: Read for the Record.
The book selected for this year is With Lots of Love, written by Jenny Torres Sanchez
and illustrated by André Ceolin. This book, published by Penguin Young Readers, is a
beautiful story about a family finding ways to stay connected and share love across distances.
Childcare centers and elementary schools need volunteers to read “With Lots of Love” to
40,000 students in 500 VPK centers, 225 schools, and 1,500 classrooms throughout Broward County! Volunteer to read at HandsOnBroward.org. The author will be in South Florida for the Broward County Library’s Literary Conference and is scheduled to read to children at an elementary school and tape a series of localized BRFTR promos
The Children’s Services Council of Broward County is an independent taxing authority
established by a public referendum on September 5, 2000, and reauthorized on November 4, 2014, which, through Public Act, Chapter 2000-461 of the laws of Florida, authorizes the
Council to levy up to 0.5 mills of property taxes. The role of the Council is to provide the
leadership, advocacy, and resources necessary to enhance children’s lives and empower them to become responsible, productive adults through collaborative planning and funding of a continuum of quality care.
