Jubilee Center
in Hollywood serves approximately 170 clients every weekday.  Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve
food and assist in cleaning up after the meal, from 8 AM – 1 PM.  (Meal will be provided to volunteers.) You
must wear closed toe shoes and please do not bring cell phones, earphones or
valuables that would need safekeeping.
Please ring the doorbell when you arrive, and we will admit you and
get you signed in.

Urban Farming and Gardening at

planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting.
Volunteers under the age 16
MUST be accompanied by a responsible
adult unless arrangements are made in advance.

 

Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes (running or tennis shoes are fine – NO Flip Flops) and clothing that can get dirty (yes, there is soil in the PATCH). For added comfort, volunteers should bring a hat, sunscreen and gloves. If a volunteer doesn’t have gloves, that’s okay – the PATCH has some gardening and latex gloves for volunteers to use at no cost. 

 

Water will be available for volunteers at the PATCH. To be environmentally friendly, we ask that volunteers bring their own reusable water bottles as there is ice water available for free refills at the PATCH!

There is a volunteer coordinator on site to get folks signed-in and to help those new to gardening/farming.

Volunteers are needed to help Pembroke Park’s Community Garden strive with healthy vegetable and herb plants. Volunteers will be pulling weeds, placing mulch, clearing, harvesting, mixing soil, planting, watering, composting, placing plant IDs. Volunteers may go home with vegetables and herbs from the garden. We expect to upkeep a variety of vegetable and herb plants grown into 24 raised beds, 20 hydroponic beds, and 75 grow bags.

Please wear closed toe shoes, clothes that can get dirty,
sun hats, sunglasses, garden gloves, garden tools. Town
will have bottled water. Bring a reusable bag to take home a few vegetables.

The Beach Sweeptakes place the second Saturday of every month. Some important tips:

  • Minors 15 years

    community service hours credit.
  • Wear appropriate
    attire and closed-toe shoes (no flip flops).
  • Bring a water container, hat and sunscreen. Water will be supplied

Unfortunately, the City of Fort Lauderdale is not able to provide free parking at this time. There is plenty of paid parking at the new parking garage just north of Las Olas Blvd on the east side of the Intracoastal.

 

Address and directions to meeting place: 300 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.  Take Las Olas Blvd to the beach/A1A.  You will see the tent on the beach opposite the Elbow Room.

Markham Park Butterfly & Bird

Join our Environmental Project Leader Maria, along with Markham Park staff, in maintaining Markham Park’s Butterfly Garden and Bird Garden.  The Butterfly Garden is located near the nature trail entrance, work will include weeding and maintenance of the beautiful butterfly attracting plants. The Bird Garden is located across from the dog park and near the nature trail entrance, work will include spreading mulch, digging holes, and planting bird-friendly plants.

 

To make day-of registration quicker, please bring the completed Broward County Workday Volunteer Application and Waiver with you – the County requires it for all volunteers who have not undergone a county background check.  The form is available by clicking here.

 

Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and must wear sneakers/closed-toe shoes – all volunteers will be working with dirt. Hats and sunscreen are recommended. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own water and gloves for the project.

 

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult to this project.  When you arrive at the Park, you will be able to park for free, and will meet Maria at the location you are given after registering.

Weekend Kitchen Helpers

We are in great need of volunteer Kitchen Helpers to
assist our staff at The Salvation Army in prepping and serving meals for
those in our shelter. We expect to serve dinner to approximately 200
individuals.

Volunteers will:

  • Assist in preparing and serving meals to residents, public and staff.
  • Assist in post-meal clean-up.

Volunteers must:

  • Bring a valid photo ID with you to volunteer.
  • Sign in and out of the building at the front desk.
  • Wear your Volunteer ID badge at all times while
    volunteering.
  • Be on time and
    dressed appropriately for your assignment. (No sleeveless shirts/tank tops,
    no open-toed shoes, and no shorts will be permitted in the kitchen)
