When going to the grocery store in order to buy our food.  Meal planning is essential, the goal is to create a colorful and tasty menu.

Combining different colors in our meals will make them more appetizing, the smell and taste of good food can take us back to happy memories from the past

Vegetables and fruits are a good source of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Proteins are essential building blocks for muscles and carbohydrates provide us with energy.

It is better and in some cases more economical to buy organic foods instead of processed foods. Organic, fresh foods are packed with vitamins and minerals processed food loose their nutritional value.

When picking foods, it is important to combine them well to get optimal nutrition y better digestion.  Vegetables with proteins it a good combination (example: grilled chicken with carrot salad).

 Food with color: good food is not only colorful, but there is a reason behind the color. And example of this is squash which is rich in beta-carotene, vitamin A and potassium.

Animal protein are important because they provides us with essential amino acids.   When consuming protein it is better to accompany them with vegetables in order to facilitate digestion.

Carbohydrates are composed into two categories:

1)      Simple carbohydrates:  white bread, rice, pasta

2)      Complex Carbohydrates:  whole wheat based products, sweet potatoes

 Complex carbohydrates give us energy and fiber; they make us feel full and overall are good for our organism.

It is important to read the nutritional value tables on the products we buy, look for the amount of, sodium, fat, sugars and fiber.

Preparing fresh food is not necessarily time consuming.
