The 23rd annual Hispanic Women of Distinction Charity luncheon held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Conference Center was another sell-out of over 600 guests paying tribute to Latina professionals who are strengthening the social fabric of this country and making inroads in the leadership pipeline for a growingly diverse America.
Founded in 2001 by the late Erwin M.Vasquez, M.D., a Venezuelan-born cardiologist, philanthropist and publisher of the pioneer Spanish newspaper, El Heraldo de Broward, and his wife, Elaine,  the goal was to help to empower Latinas and to recognize the influence they have in the South Florida community.   These Latinas, both past and present, are not afraid to dream big, to carve their own paths, to be grateful for the opportunities they have received, and to pay it forward to those who will follow.
Presented by Latina Style Magazine, the nation’s leader in Hispanic women business in partnership with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as a host of more than 40 corporate and media partners, the Hispanic Women of Distinction celebration has become one of the nation’s largest celebrations of Latinas.
Guests enjoyed the annual parade of former honorees opening up the ceremonies waving American flags and bringing the guests to their feet in anticipation of a high-energy, cultural afternoon of great food, entertainment and heritage.
On arrival, all attendees received a complimentary “motito” on arrival from Tito’s Handmade Vodka, exciting Mariachi’s parading the business expo along with a fantastic silent auction and raffles.    The charities benefiting this year were MS Foundation and Light of the World Clinic raising $23,000!
At noon, the ballroom welcomed guests with a superb luncheon, table gifts, a live performance by Brazilian Voices and an introduction of the 2024 Hispanic Women of Distinction by NBC Ch 6/Telemundo mistress of ceremonies, Myriam Masihy.
Each honoree was announced and escorted by a former honoree with a strong focus on their philanthropic efforts in the community, linked closely with their heritage and cultural traditions.
“It has been a honor to continue this tradition of recognizing Hispanic-American women who continued to lead and pave the way for others to follow”, said Elaine Miceli-Vasquez, co-founder and producer.
